Artists for Peace: Benefit Concert Classic meets Jazz

On the occasion of the jointly organized benefit concert Artists for Peace “Classic meets Jazz”, the mayors of the municipalities of Eichwalde, Königs Wusterhausen, Mittenwalde, Schönefeld, Schulzendorf, Wildau and Zeuthen declare:

Using the power of music to set an example for peace and international understanding

The war in Ukraine is bringing great suffering to the people. The violence unleashed by Russia is killing countless people. Soldiers on both sides are dying and, time and again, innocent civilians. The destruction we see is severe. We are deeply moved by the suffering that has been unleashed.

Many refugees from Ukraine have already arrived in our cities and towns. They are mainly women, children and old people, to whom we are trying with all our strength to offer a good and safe place to stay. We sincerely thank the many people involved in civil society. Without the help and great empathy of our citizens, none of this would be possible, which is now helping many.

We mayors want to set a sign together, for peace and international understanding. The right means for us is music. It is the language of the soul. It knows no nation and no borders. It is an expression of culture and must be heard far and wide, especially in times of barbarism: Against war noise and war rhetoric!

Therefore, we invite all citizens to come to a benefit concert Artists for Peace “Classic meets Jazz” on the Funkerberg in Königs Wusterhausen on April 8. Starting at 6 p.m., more than 30 top-class musicians from Ukraine, Russia, Germany and many other countries of the world will send a musical message for peace, international understanding and also against the fear of war here with us.

The entrance is free. We, the mayors of the municipalities of Eichwalde, Königs Wusterhausen, Mittenwalde, Schönefeld, Schulzendorf, Wildau and Zeuthen will collect donations for Ukraine Aid here locally at the event. Together with those responsible in the district of Dahme-Spreewald, we will use the donations in a targeted manner in the region.
